March Event End

Event End

✿ As of March 23rd, the hound attack event is over. However, we don't quite feel comfortable deciding the result of this just yet due to how few posts and threads occurred during this time (or during the extra time between event end and this post), so we would like to ask you all to help us determine how, precisely, this ended. We will give you the results of this decision in short order.

We determined three general paths to the finish line. The abundant clay in the art room could be used to round off corners (alongside a basic warding ritual) to impede the dogs' movement. The water of the pool could be used to lure kill them. The other option was to do nothing and simply wait it out.

Which of these things would your characters have done? The results for each are different. We'd like to give you all a chance to decide, rather than being forced into the road of inaction due to...well, inaction.

Secondly, as plot mod I would like to ask for your feedback. I understand I probably did not run this event as well as I should have, and for that I'm sorry. What would have made this event more fun? What would make it easier to engage with? What should I keep in mind for the future?

I think it would have worked much better to lay out the whole idea in the first plot post, including the art-room and pool-room methods of getting rid of the dogs. Basically, make it clear that there were options for characters to actively pursue other than waiting it out. I definitely got the impression from the first post that the event was going to kind of be a waiting game -- that characters could fight them, even kill them, and take refuge in certain places, but that they couldn't actually escape or permanently defeat them. They would just all go away on a certain date regardless of character action or inaction.

Pre-scheduling events is also a good idea. You can still keep the exact details of the event a secret while saying in the monthly mod post, for example, "White Day event on this day," and then, "March event this week." It lets people make plans around the timing of the event, rather than being oocly taken by surprise.

Seconding the above about having details about the routes out in the open from the start, especially with the size of our current playerbase. With more players, it's easier to go by trial and error to see what would happen because somebody will stumble upon a solution sooner or later, but with just a handful (and characters teaming up), we might need more direction to play out an event in a timely manner while still keeping the ending open for player influence. My impression of the event was that encountering a dog was unavoidable, and once you've encountered one, you'll be pursued practically 24/7 with little breathing room to investigate clues, so including intermittent breaks for characters to move around would be helpful.

Mostly I'm concerned about the number of active characters. Since we're not having a TDM this app round, it might be interesting to combine one with a future event where it's also game canon. Sudden temporary influx of students to mess with our current characters and increase the number of bodily resource, and it'll give prospective players a taste of an Inugami Horror Event.

Anyways, Mafuyu would have unhelpfully waited it out fighting off what she could, because she doesn't believe in rituals and she can't swim so the pool room is out of the question :x

Agreed with both above. Pre-scheduling things, or at least having a calendar of events will help people keep track of everything, and I'd also recommend some space between events like White Day and the dogs. We really didn't have a lot of time to do much on the White Day mini-event before the dogs. And definitely give more information for us to work with in the info posts--not giving away the answer, but giving us more options and maybe even some false leads to work with.

Eiji has been investigating the art room, though I'm still threading to see if he's figured out whether it's the clay itself or the rounded corners that slow down the dogs. He hasn't figured out that water kills them yet, since he assumes they're just unable to swim.

Agreed on all above points. I actually didn't realize the thing with the dogs was even happening for a few days because I saw the White Day event and figured that would be it. Which, granted, is me not paying super close attention, but having a general calendar in advance would be useful.

As for Souji, since he's threading with Eiji in the art room, he's probably going to end up in that boat. I could imagine the two of them deciding to spread the clay around, but we haven't gotten that far so I don't really know.

Agreed with everyone above. There's one thing I'd like to add: after the post with additional information concerning the event went up, I don't think we were told that the event will last longer (well, technically it didn't since you've mentioned that as for March 23rd the event is over but still we were given extra time). Maybe it was just me, but I was pretty sure that we'll get the results (or any information what to do next) on the 23rd anyway and I was a bit surprised when we didn't get them.

Kaori probably would wait it out and keep an eye on her friends in case they'd like to do something about the dogs and discourage them from fighting.

That's what I thought too, about the event results going up on the 23rd (or since we didn't have enough activity to decide the ending, a feedback post like this one). Without knowing how the event is resolved/what direction it's heading, it's also difficult to make new posts, logs, club things, whatever.
